Kotak Mahindra Bank Germany Blocked Account

Hi, my name is Harpreet, and I got admitted to German University. Now, I am supposed to open a blocked account and plan to open a blocked account with an Indian bank itself, but I did not know how to open a blocked account for Germany with Kotak Mahindra Bank in India. Can anyone help me with this?

Kotak Mahindra Bank is not directly linked with German companies, as it has no branches in Germany. Still, you can open a blocked account with Kotak Mahindra bank easily and securely. Kotak is the only Indian bank authorized by the German Embassy to open blocked accounts for international students who want to study in Germany. To open a blocked account with Kotak, follow the given steps;

  1. Visit Kotak Mahindra bank's nearby branch, fill out all necessary details and submit a scanned copy of your university admission letter, passport, adhaar card, pan card, etc., to the bank.
  2. After documentation, the bank will contact you through email to confirm the bank account and share the details of your account, where you must pay €11,208 or about INR 10 lakhs as a blocked account amount.
  3. After depositing the amount, the bank will open your blocked account. This entire process of applying, funding, & opening a blocked account takes the time of 7 to 10 days.
  4. Once your account is ready in India, you must arrive in Germany, open an account with a local German bank, and link both statements together. After connecting both accounts, Kotak bank will send the funds to the local German bank, and you will get €934 as a monthly installment, as per the rules of the German Federal Authority.
