What Equipment required for TOEFL Home Edition Test ?

The following equipment and environment is required for the TOEFL iBT Home Edition Test:

System Requirements

💻 Computer
  • Desktop or laptop computer. You can't use a tablet or mobile device
  • Only one monitor or screen. Multiple monitors or dual screens are not permitted.
  • Only one keyboard. Multiple keyboards are not allowed.
  • Only Windows with minimum version 10 and Mac with minimum version OS X® 10.13 allowed.
  • A stable internet connection
🔊 Speaker
  • Use an internal or external speaker to take your test and hear the proctor
  • In-Built speakers are allowed.
  • Headsets and earphones aren't allowed.
🎙️ Microphone
  • To communicate with the proctor, you must use an Internal microphone.
  • An external microphone can be used if connected directly to the system.
  • Headsets and earphones aren't allowed.
📷 Camera
  • A separate webcam, or a camera built into the computer or monitor screen, is permitted.
  • You’ll need to be able to move the camera to show the proctor a 360-degree view of the room. This includes showing your tabletop surface and the area below it.

  • A fully charged smartphone or tablet with a working camera that runs on iOS 12 or later or Android 8 or later 
  • A stable internet connection

Environment Requirements

1 You must be alone in a room with doors closed. No one may enter the room. Testing in a public space is not allowed.
2 Cover all transparent walls, doors or large open windows.
3 Clear the walls of any material related to the test.
4 Computer and keyboard must be on a desk or tabletop surface and remain connected to a power supply.
5 Seat must be a standard chair — not a couch, bed or overstuffed chair
6 Position your table and chair so the door to the room will be visible to the proctor
7 Tabletop and surrounding area must be clear of all unapproved items. Food and drink are not allowed during the test
8 Dress appropriately: you will be monitored via camera by a proctor. A photo will be taken for score reports that are shared with institutions.
9 For security, remove all accessories, jewelry, hairbands and hats. You may wear a religious head covering, but ears must be always visible
10 You may not take notes on regular paper

You may experience connectivity issues during the test, and the proctor will cancel your test. Additionally, use a WiFi or LAN Connection for the Exam.
