An individual above the age of 16 is eligible to start the preparation for IELTS Exam. There are no restrictions based on gender, caste, religion, or nationality. The candidate needs a valid passport for the IELTS exam. There is no upper age limit fixed by IELTS conducting bodies. The minimum score requirement depends on the University or Country.
For example, students going to universities in the USA need a minimum 5.5 band score. Still, universities like California Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Princeton University, etc. require 7.0 band scores, whereas students going to Canadian universities need a minimum 6.0 band. Still, the University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, McGill University, etc., needs 6.5 band scores.
IELTS Requirement based on Country
- Canada: As per the rule and regulation of IRCC, students who want to apply for a student visa under the SDS category should have a 6.0 overall band score only. However, students can apply for study permits with an overall 6.0 band score. Please note, students with less than 6 bands in any module will be accepted by IRCC under the SDS category if overall score is more than 6 bands
- Australia: Applicants who want to appear in undergraduate programs must have a 6.0 overall band score and at least 5.5 in any module for an Australian Student Visa. However, for the post-graduate program, you should have 6.5 overall bands in IELTS and at least 6 in each module.
- USA: Immigration authorities do not have any minimum set band requirement. However, they ensure applicants can communicate in English and complete their education smoothly. Universities in the USA ask for a minimum 6.5 band score for post-graduate studies and 6.0 for undergraduate studies.
- UK: To maintain high-quality education standards, UK immigration requires a minimum score of 5.5 overall and in each module. However, the Universities might set a minimum requirement of 6 bands for undergraduate and 6.5 for post-graduate courses.
