According to IRCC rules, all foreign nationals must undergo a designated Visa Medical Test if they have stayed in one of the selected countries, such as Nepal, for more than 6 months in the last year. This test is mandatory for all visa categories, including Temporary and Permanent Resident applications, such as Tourist, Visitor, Student, Worker, Permanent Residency, and Express Entry. 

The standard charges for the Canada Visa Medical Test in Bangladesh are NPR 8350-9600 for people aged above 15 years, and a flat fee of NPR 4250-4800 for children under the age of 5 years. 

 

How to book an appointment for a Canadian visa medical test in Nepal?

To book your Canada Visa Medical Test appointment in Nepal, you must directly contact authorised hospitals, such as Travel and Mountain Medical Centre in Kathmandu and the IOM Medical Health Assessment Centre in Kathmandu and Damak. You can book your appointment either online, by phone, or by email. You are not required to make any payment online, as the hospital will collect the fees in cash on the day of the appointment. 

Based on your availability, they will provide you with an appointment date & time. You must visit the clinic on the scheduled appointment day and undergo a medical examination. 

 

What documents should I carry for the Canada Visa Medical Test in Nepal?

When taking the Canada Visa Medical Test in Nepal, you must carry the following documents to ensure a smooth procedure.

  1. Original Passport
  2. IME Letter provided by IRCC
  3. If you have received a COVID-19 vaccine, please bring the proof of vaccination card or QR code certificate issued by the Ministry of Health and Population.
  4. Spectacles/contact lenses if you wear one
  5. Offer letter from a respected college/University (If Student)
  6. List of the current prescription of your medication/medical records of primary operations or illness. Previous chest x-ray if you have any history of chest problems
  7. Please bring a shawl with you (for women).

You are NOT required to carry your Passport Copies or Photos.  

 

What medical tests will be conducted during a Canada Visa Medical Examination?

The Medical tests during an Examination depend on the age of the Applicant.

>11 to <15 years 501 - Medical Examination
502 - Chest X-ray
>15 years to above 501 - Medical Examination
502- Chest X-ray Exam
707 - HIV testing
705 - Serum Creatinine
712 - Syphilis testing

There might be some additional Medical tests, such as a TB investigation, Urine Pregnancy Test, IGRA, and Sputum Smear, based on the Doctor's recommendation. There will be no X-ray examination in the case of a pregnant applicant. The applicant must bear additional charges for any further tests. 

 

What is the procedure for a Canada Visa Medical Test in the hospital?

The Medical Examination is similar to a general body check-up, where an authorised hospital will conduct basic medical tests as set by IRCC. Here is the Step-by-Step procedure of What you should expect at the Test Centre on the day of the appointment

  1. Visit the Clinic/Hospital on the day of your medical appointment and collect your token.
  2. Get your Photo clicked by a Staff Member.
  3. Proceed to the ID Check Counter and present your Passport, IME Letter, and other necessary Documents.
  4. Make the Medical Examination Fees in Cash.
  5. They will take measurements of your height, weight, and blood pressure and conduct a vision test.
  6. Then, you must proceed with an X-ray examination if applicable. Change into a Hospital-Provided Gown and undergo the X-ray test.
  7. Give your blood and urine samples as instructed.
  8. Wait for the lab results, followed by a check-up by the Panel Physician. They may ask you to remove the Clothes in a covered area to check for any past Surgery-related marks.

The entire process will take approximately 2-3 hours, depending on the level of demand and availability of the Panel Physician.

 

How to Obtain Medical Reports from the Hospital?

The Medical Reports will be uploaded directly by the hospital to the IRCC portal, and it will take approximately 24-48 hours for the update. If there are any abnormalities in your test results, the panel physician will inform you on the day of your appointment. Hence, you do not need to collect your reports from the Hospital physically. 

 

Is Fasting required before a Medical Test?

No, the Medical tests conducted in this Examination are standard and do not require fasting. It is recommended to have a proper meal before coming for the Examination. 

 

What is the validity of the Canada Medical Check-up Report?

The Validity of the Canada Visa Medical Report is 1 year from the date of the Examination. In the event of a Visa Refusal or Re-Application, the same Medical report can be used for a Canadian visa application. Suppose the gap between the Medical Examination Date and the Date of Arrival in Canada exceeds 1 year. In that case, the Applicant must undergo a Re-Medical examination, even if they have a valid Visa. As per IRCC rules, the traveller must have a valid Medical Report at the time of arrival in Canada if the length of stay is more than 6 months in Designated Countries in the last year.

There are three IRCC-authorised medical test centres in Nepal for the Canada Visa Medical Test. Two of them are located in Kathmandu, and the third is situated in Dhamak.

Important Instructions for Canada Visa Medical Tests in Nepal

There are several important instructions to follow before taking the Visa Medical Test for Canada.

  1. Please do not carry any passport Copies and photos, as the hospital staff will take them on the day of the appointment.
  2. Female Candidates are advised not to book an appointment during their menstrual cycle and wait until then.
  3. Please note that relatives or friends are not permitted to accompany you and may need to wait outside the premises.
  4. Dressing: Avoid coloured contact lenses. Please do not wear any Jewellery or Necklaces, as they will need to be removed during the X-ray. Wear easy-to-change clothing with minimal pins. Ensure sleeves are not tight and can be rolled up past the elbow for a blood sample.
  5. You are not required to fast for a medical examination; hence, you are recommended to have a meal as usual.

For People aged above 15 years, the standard charges for medical tests for a Canada visa application range between NPR 7,100 and NPR 8,200. The applicable charges are the same for Students, Visitors, Workers, and other Visa Categories.
