Is the TOEFL iBT Home Edition acceptable for an Irish Student Visa?

Yes, the TOEFL iBT Test Center and TOEFL iBT Home Edition are both accepted by Irish Immigration (Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration) for Student Visa Applications. Still, there are a few exceptions at the University, where they are not accepting the Home Edition for selected courses. Based on TOEFL efforts for maximum acceptability and the growing popularity of the TOEFL Home Edition, most universities are already accepting or planning to accept TOEFL iBT for upcoming intakes.

The decision to accept Online Version Exams was taken by Irish Immigration during the COVID-19 pandemic to accept the Home Edition version equally, and it is still ongoing.  

Minimum TOEFL iBT Score Required by Irish Universities

The top-ranking universities in Ireland, such as Trinity College Dublin (TCD), University College Dublin (UCD), and University College Cork (UCC) require a minimum overall score of 90 with 21 in subsections for Bachelor's and a minimum overall score of 100 with 23 in subsections for Master's programs.

Most universities in Ireland accept the TOEFL iBT Scorecard as an English Proficiency Requirement for admission in Bachelor's and Master's programs. Required TOEFL iBT Score for an Irish Student Visa

The Irish Immigration Department requires all International students coming to Ireland for higher studies to have an English Language Proficiency Certificate from authorized test providers such as IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo, LanguageCert, etc. 

The Irish Immigration has specific requirements for a minimum score in the TOEFL iBT test for a Student Visa. As per the latest update on 14th Sep 2024, the department accepts both TOEFL iBT Test Center and Home Edition for Study Visa Applications. They provided equal value to both versions of TOEFL.
