The course is designed to be hands-on and practical. Brunel's Mary Seacole Building is purpose-built for physiotherapy and occupational therapy. The rooms reflect the type of clinical environments that students will work in as a physiotherapist and they’ll learn their practical skills there as they’ll have the opportunity to practice on patients visiting the university and on their fellow students. This means that students can be confident and experienced in time for their first placement.
On this course, students will learn how to evaluate data and to apply research knowledge and skills to clinical practice. Students will be taught to design their own research and how to use this research to advance clinical practice.
At Brunel they understand the value of making the most of students' 1,000 hours of clinical experience. Placements begin at the end of the first year. All of Brunel's academic staff have worked or still work clinically within the London area so students will benefit from their excellent links with prestigious London hospitals.
There’s also a strong focus on professional development throughout the course. Study areas include managing and improving health services, self-management and team working so they’ll be fully equipped with a strong scientific foundation and the practical and professional skills to progress their career. This is reflected in Brunel's employment figures with 100 per cent of MSc pre-registration graduates employed as physiotherapists within six months of completing the programme.
The NHS Values are shaped by patients, public and staff have helped develop this expression of values that inspire passion in the NHS and that should underpin everything it does.
