Langara College Film Arts is an eight-month, intensive, collaborative, and comprehensive program for students wishing to work in today’s film industry as actors, writers, or directors.
The Film Arts program offers post-accreditation certificates in three streams of study; Writing for the Screen, Acting for the Screen, and Directing for the Screen.
Courses in film studies, film principles, and film practice overlap resulting in a creative and collaborative environment in which students will practice their skills with the other creators in each craft area. These overlapping courses are designed so students will develop a dynamic understanding of the film making process.
Nevertheless, each certificate will be a stand-alone program. The film arts program is designed as three parallel paths, each one concentrating on its own area of expertise and resulting in a portfolio of work and a base of knowledge that will give the student a significant advantage when entering the workforce in the professional world of film production.
Instructors are working professionals who bring their expertise and experience into the classroom.
Within the Film Arts Acting Certificate, students will collaborate with directors and writers in a unique program for actors set apart by the focus on real production. Students don't just take acting classes in Film Arts, they produce two festival quality films in which they also have an on-screen role. They will also produce the year-end Film Arts Festival screening event that showcases their talent and will be a launch pad for the films that their team will promote and screen worldwide.
