Palliative care is an important aspect of healthcare in communities across the globe. Throughout this course, students will focus on relevant research and public health issues relating to palliative care. They'll develop their knowledge of palliative care, including the principles of identifying patients who could benefit from this approach to healthcare, and how research informs the practice of managing common symptoms in palliative care patients.
In University of Dundee's Master of Public Health (Palliative Care Research) course students will learn about the challenges facing palliative care research and how clinical research can be undertaken by using public health research principles within a palliative care context.
Dundee works collaboratively with the Tayside Palliative and End of Life Care Network and the Tayside Specialist Palliative Care Service - students will benefit from interactions with this network of stakeholders in the palliative care field. Bringing together patients, practitioners, charities and others with an interest or experience in palliative care, these groups are well-placed to share knowledge and guidance for their research. The varied clinical settings throughout Tayside (our local health region) provide an excellent basis for a variety of research projects.
Following the taught component of the course, students will complete a research project and dissertation that will demonstrate the integrative, analytical and critical skills they've gained, and allow them to explore an area of interest in palliative care in more detail.
