The MSc Product Design Engineering equips students with the skills for future-thinking careers in the engineering aspects of product design. Students will hone their practical techniques across a range of design and engineering principles, including frugal and inclusive design, the use of tech-supported APIs, and manufacturing with environmental concerns in mind.
Learners will discover how to understand trends and bring increasingly sophisticated, technologically compound products to market, using adaptive skills to meet business needs of the future.
Lectures are delivered by members of the School of Engineering and the School of Design who have the relevant globally recognised specialism within the respective field. Guest speakers bring additional perspectives from industry or research and keep students updated with the latest industry standards in their discipline.
The University uses different teaching approaches to give students a varied experience. This includes lectures, interactive paper-led discussions and exercises to encourage creative thinking. The taught modules are informed by research. The theory of each topic is accompanied by practical elements covering paper-based, computer-based and hands-on building type challenges. Other than this, the course is designed to give learners the space for exploratory and independent study.
Graduates of this Product Design Engineering master’s course will be ideally placed for highly technical and managerial careers. They'll shape how engineering and technology can be deployed in well-designed contemporary products and play a key role in developing the products of the future.
