Music at University of Guelph at Main

The Bachelor of Arts in Music program at the University of Guelph is geared towards students who have a significant interest in music and music studies within a wider liberal arts education. It is a comprehensive and flexible program, integrating intellectual and practical training, offering courses in music history, theory, ethnomusicology, composition, pedagogy, jazz and improvisation, popular music, digital music, and performance. Students develop a high degree of musicianship through skills training, music lessons (for those interested in advanced instrumental and vocal training), and participation in a variety of ensembles.

Music programs allow considerable flexibility for students to select one or more areas of interest, such as individual study on an instrument or in composition, performing in vocal or instrumental ensembles, specialized historical or theoretical study or in-depth study in other music topics. With new facilities in digital technology, the program supports the increasing importance of technology in musical production, distribution, and listening. Students go on to further studies and careers in music education (institutional and private), graduate music research, arts administration, performance, and production.
