The BA (Hons) Education degree aims to develop students' conceptual understanding and skills relevant for the 21st century and to encourage their participation in the search for personal and social meaning within the field of education. The programme therefore selectively draws from fields such as history, philosophy, psychology, sociology, economics and linguistics to promote critical understandings of curriculum, assessment, pedagogical design and other important issues related to education including relevancy, inclusion, access and equity. In recognizing an increasingly diverse and fast-changing world, the programme also focuses on the impact and potential of digitally-influenced ways of learning and communicating.
Students will learn from lecturers who have worked in educational roles and carried out research for many years, including within schools, universities, local authorities, museums, and outdoor education centres, not just within the UK but all around the world. With so much experience to learn from, students will gain a unique and valuable insight into their chosen career. Hertfordshire's expert teaching team are committed to delivering an innovative education experience.
Study Abroad optional module provides students with an opportunity to study abroad and gain invaluable experience in a different context. With the support of tutors and the Study Abroad team, students can transfer to a programme in a partner institution for one Semester. Enriching learning, students will have an opportunity to learn through taught or flexible modules, research projects or a combination of these.
Besides, students will undertake one work or community-based module at each level of the course. Throughout the course, students will reflect on, and analyze their own practice and experience. They will be supported in this through seminars, lectures and tutorials, on campus or online. These work-based enquiry modules aim to provide students with an opportunity to experience real world contexts; a chance to critically explore the social, communicative and organizational dimensions of a range of workplace contexts; and the tools and experiences to develop their employability skills.
