Studying an MBA can transform the way professionals think and the way they work, change the way others see them and open up new leadership and management opportunities.
This full-time MBA enables students to develop the critical and reflective strategic leadership skills they need to succeed in an uncertain world, challenging their assumptions, cultivating flexible thinking, effective decision making and responsible management. There is a considerable emphasis on the utilization of theory and knowledge, allowing students to make sense of their own and fellow participants' experiences at work. Case study material is widely used alongside case histories developed by fellow participants.
The Public Services pathway focuses on strategic analysis and decision making in the context of changing public service organization and provision, and the uncertain business environment in which public services function. It examines theoretical and management issues underpinning a wide range of strategic debates relevant to public service organizations. An evaluation of differing approaches to strategy-making is explored in order to provide an informed and critical view of creative strategies. Students will also learn the tools of analysis to support professional and career development within public service settings.
Learners will be supported by first-class facilities, including the University of Hertfordshire's virtual learning environment, StudyNet, which provides access to other students, lecture notes and over 100,000 e-books and e-journals. They'll also benefit from teaching and supervision by the expert research-active staff, several of whom are world leaders in their field and act as consultants with leading organizations such as Roche, Camelot and BDO Hayward.
The MBA programme is career changing. Students will have access to a career coach which will help them boost their career with sessions on topics including personal branding, personal impact and difficult conversations. Besides, the Hertfordshire Business School's careers team will invite students to join the vibrant alumni network and attend regular career-focused events.
At every stage, there are opportunities for students to engage with business, learn through practical, work-based assignments and apply their knowledge in real-world settings in their role. They can undertake a six-month applied business experience where they'll set up and run their own business or social enterprise. While this supports their learning, they'll be encouraged to develop and explore their business ideas and apply it directly to their career aspirations.
