The MSc Software Engineering course examines current research and practice in software engineering. Learners will develop knowledge and skills in the models, methodologies, measures and tools that can be employed in software development considered as an engineering discipline.
This course is accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS) enabling graduates to register at The Chartered Institute for IT as a Chartered IT Professional. It provides students with a specialism combining theoretical knowledge and practical skills in advanced computer science.
Students use modern, industry-standard software wherever possible. Besides, there are specialist facilities for networking and multimedia and a project laboratory. They have an option to take a one-year industry placement in a highly professional and stimulating environment. Previous students have worked for organizations including Apple, Intel and Microsoft. During the placement, students will be able to gain further insight into industrial practice that they can take forward into their individual project.
The MSc Software Engineering with Placement Year programme is designed to give Computer Science graduates the specialist, up-to-date skills and knowledge sought after by employers, whether in business, industry, government or research. It will prepare graduates for a career such as a Software Engineer, Application Developer, Project Manager, Business Analyst and Consultant. Recent graduates have joined companies like Capgemini, Optoma Technology and Ocado.
