Collecting, managing and analyzing data is essential across many sectors – from finance to politics, and advertising to healthcare. The University of Surrey's Data Science MSc programme will give learners the advanced computation and mathematics skills they'll need to work in the growing field of data science, data analytics, data engineering, data architecture and business analytics. This programme uniquely addresses the fundamentals of data as well as the technical considerations needed to handle data with increasing scale and complexity.
This MSc course combines in-depth study of the theory and practice of data science, machine learning and data mining; business analytics; database systems and cloud computing. All taught students are assigned a personal tutor to support them while they study.
Learners can customize this MSc with optional modules in information security, sensors and advanced artificial intelligence. And towards the end, they'll have to complete a dissertation where they can further explore an area that interests them. The dissertation projects involve topical real-world problems, often linked into cutting-edge research.
Students on this course can benefit from a range of advanced facilities, including a multi-purpose Computer Science Laboratory with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment; a high-performance computing (HPC) cluster; and an access grid node (AGN) which provides a 6m screen for video conferencing, presentation sharing and software demonstration.
