Education at University of Leeds at Headingley

This master’s course will help students develop personally and professionally as an educator. Students will be exposed to the latest educational theory and policy.

This master’s programme will inform their educational practice.

As part of this course, students will:

  • Take a critical and reflective approach to diverse issues in education, such as culture, race, gender and class
  • Understand and challenge the importance of relevant theories, paradigms and concepts
  • Develop and articulate their own views on education, informed by a critical evaluation of relevant theoretical and practical perspectives
  • Adopt an autonomous approach to their learning and continuing professional development
  • Apply theoretical debates to critically evaluate professional practices and vocational contexts
  • Explore and critique educational theory, research, policy and practice
  • Select and apply appropriate research techniques and methodologies to complete a major piece of independent research
  • Practise making sound judgments and communicating or presenting their conclusions competently

This course is delivered during weekend and twilight sessions, using small group tutorials, seminars and lectures. Students will have opportunities to participate in peer-led discussions and presentations and access to additional support on the Virtual Learning Environment. Students' learning will be enhanced by visiting speakers who will share their experiences of working in the educational sector.
