Effective health and safety practices are integral to the success of any organization. Whether working as an operations manager, office manager, engineer or technician, employees will be involved in establishing and maintaining a safe working environment. Accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) - the world's leading Professional Body for Health and Safety Practitioners, the MSc Health and Safety program will develop the student's knowledge of how different organizations use varying levels of safety procedures and also assess their impact on the company as a whole.
Learners can either study the postgraduate degree or the postgraduate diploma programme to achieve an IOSH-accredited award. For those who have already completed an IOSH-accredited PG Dip, the MSc course offers them the chance to convert their qualification into an MSc by studying two additional research modules.
By investigating an organization in its entirety, learners will gain a broad knowledge of other departments such as marketing, sales and human resources and how they are affected by the implemented processes and procedures. Students will also enhance their understanding of the technical and human aspects of health and safety, learning to identify whether problems were caused by machine malfunctions or misjudgment by humans.
This Master's course is delivered by health and safety practitioners or specialists from a wide range of occupational sectors. In addition to this, LBU provides excellent facilities for students to help maintain close links with various employment providers.
On completion of the MSc in Health and Safety, students will be eligible for graduate membership of IOSH. They can begin working on their portfolio and professional development plan in order to achieve Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner status. This could help graduates to forge a new career in health and safety or it could enhance their current promotion prospects in the sector.
