The College Diploma in Civil Technology (Municipal Engineering) provides students who have completed their Civil Technician certificate with an opportunity to learn about civil technology in greater detail. They will learn about terrain analysis, fluid mechanics, geotechnical materials, groundwater flow and analysis, roadway design, and water and wastewater piping system design—all with an emphasis on project management.
Students will use the drafting and problem-solving skills learned in the Civil Technician certificate to develop real industry infrastructure designs and plans that could be built in the field. Throughout the final year, students will plan and create an Applied Research Project using the skills they have honed throughout the program. Students can participate in two co-operative work placements and gain experience in real-life industry conditions.
Students can enhance their technical skills in surveying and AutoCAD and learn how environmental features like construction and water affect infrastructure. In this program, students will focus on project management, planning and communication to ensure they are ready for the career responsibilities in this field.
Graduates may pursue careers in surveying, materials testing, drafting and report preparation. Career opportunities may be in the field or in an office environment helping technologists and engineers design and construct infrastructure related projects.
