Gartner, Inc. forecasts that 20.4 billion connected things will be in use worldwide by 2020, with the global market projected to reach a value of more than £1 trillion. In time, these appliances will exchange information automatically, co-ordinating what they do without human intervention. The Internet of Things is a key enabling technology for broader paradigm shifts in areas such as smart cities, smart health, automotives, industry 4.0 and circular economies.
This programme shares its core modules with the MSc Internet of Things. The specialist (option) units will give you an understanding of data analytics methods, processes and selected applications applied in the area of IoT. Students will also get a clear picture of explorative and confirmatory IoT data analysis technologies and/or practical experience using different data analysis tools in an IoT context.
As the connections grow, devices will exchange information automatically, coordinating actions without human intervention. Connected things will become ubiquitous and will create a single system that transforms the world of everyday objects into a programmable environment.
IoT will change the way we think about life and work. Global industries such as manufacturing, transportation, logistics, defence, agriculture, infrastructure, retail, healthcare and food services, are already investing heavily in developing their own IoT infrastructures.
This course will produce professionals with the specialised knowledge to meet the skills gap in data management and analysis which will help their employers gain a competitive business advantage.
Graduates will also acquire the knowledge and skills to manage real business activities through an IoT infrastructure and develop an awareness of the impact of IoT on society.
