The MSc Finance is an applied, broad-based master’s degree that is CIMA accredited, CFA-affiliated and designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to work in a wide range of financial roles.
The programme is best suited to those who wish to gain an in-depth understanding of the whole field of finance before choosing their preferred area of specialisation – the optional modules will allow students to tailor their degree to fit their career aspirations. Students will learn both how to evaluate financial issues and to improve the practice of finance.
The master’s in Finance shares a common taught first semester with the MSc Corporate Finance and MSc Finance and Investment programmes. In semesters two and three, students will then choose from a wide range of modular options, including those in corporate finance, investment and international finance.
Within corporate finance, students will gain a deeper understanding of topics such as cost of capital and dividend policy, as well as investment topics such as asset pricing and portfolio selection. Students will also have the opportunity to explore international finance by selecting optional modules in international financial management, global financial markets and/or global investment analysis.
Students will be taught by internationally renowned academics who are able to bring fresh insights into their teaching, both from their research and from their advisory roles on government policy and in industry. Loughborough University's research strengths include financial markets, corporate finance, accounting and investments. Teaching on the programme is academically rigorous and students will benefit from the strong emphasis on practical relevance.
Refinitiv Workspace financial trading software is integrated into the programme and will provide the platform for many of the computer lab sessions in the dedicated Trading Room, enabling students to practically apply concepts they have learned during the programme. Workspace will be used for individual and group assessments and 24/7 remote access will also be available. Students can also work independently towards a certificate of competency in Workspace, which is awarded by Refinitiv (London Stock Exchange Group).
