Loughborough's MSc Strength and Conditioning provides the knowledge, skills and experience to develop athletes across the spectrum of athletic achievement, from participation to high performance. The programme provides bespoke research-informed modules to develop students' knowledge of all topics relevant to strength and conditioning. The programme capitalises on the school's sporting strengths to enable the provision of hands-on coaching experience, designed to give students the tools to develop athletic performance at the highest level.
Study runs across three terms from October to September. During the autumn and spring terms, the course will focus on the science and practice of strength and conditioning as well as the fundamental science underpinning performance adaptations. During the spring term, students will also immerse themselves in the strength and conditioning environment, performing an extended coaching internship with either Loughborough University performance athletes or external sport partners. The programme culminates in a substantial independent research project which runs from late spring through to the end of the programme. During this period students will apply the knowledge and techniques they have learned to answer a scientific question relevant to strength and conditioning that will further develop their understanding.
In undertaking the master's in strength and conditioning, students will be joining the number one-ranked School for sports-related subjects in the world and a sporting landscape that is without parallel in any other UK university. This diverse and friendly community provides incredible opportunities to learn and discuss, as well as broadening their overall postgraduate experience.
Teaching is in several state-of-the-art performance and laboratory facilities including in the Technogym Centre for Excellence - Loughborough's world class athlete development facility. This facility includes 23 weightlifting platforms, Eleiko bars and plates, two sets of inground force plates, a custom isometric mid-thigh pull dynamometer, and a 20m tartan track. The Centre for Excellence is not only home to all Loughborough University performance athletes, but also a primary training hub for the English Institute of Sport, and for several national governing bodies of sport.
