Pure mathematics involves the study of the core areas of mathematics such as abstract algebra, number theory, geometry, and real and complex analysis. It is also a desirable prerequisite for almost any area of learning since it can serve as an extremely effective tool for training in logical reasoning.
Memorial University employs undergraduate students in the Math Help Centre and to mark course assignments. Some students qualify for summer research employment funded by the National Science and Engineering Research Council.
Memorial University offers major and honours programs leading to either a bachelor of arts (BA) or bachelor of science (B.Sc.) in pure mathematics. Direct admission to this major is not available at the time of application. Students must complete certain first-year courses and may need to meet minimum graduate requirements before applying to the major.
Please note: Memorial University of Newfounland will have an increase in their tuition prices starting Fall 2022. Cost of tuition will be $20,000 per year, for all new Students starting in Fall 2022 and later. The current prices are valid only for the January 2022 and May 2022 Intakes.
