Mechanical engineers are needed wherever there is machinery. They drive every stage of design, manufacturing, construction and research. In this program students will combine the study of basic engineering with practical courses in machine design, robotics and manufacturing methods. Hands-on design is integral to this program, so students may find themselves involved in designing artificial joints, or even a spacecraft, depending on their specialization. If students choose the Materials option, they will study the exciting developments in materials and nanotechnology.
Areas of specialization include aerospace, mechatronics, biomechanical, manufacturing, materials, and thermofluids.
The first year of study in Engineering and Applied Science is based on a common curriculum and serves as an introduction to all of the academic plans offered by the Faculty. The choice of academic plan the student intends to follow in the second and subsequent years is made in February in the Winter Term of the first year.
Note: Students in this program are also eligible for the Queen’s Undergraduate Internship Program (QUIP) which provides 2nd or 3rd year students with a 12-16 month work experience. The internships are paid, professionally supervised, career-related positions offering students the opportunity to learn about current advances, practices, and technologies in business and industry.
