Applied Psychology at Teesside University at Main

Teesside University's MSc Psychology (Applied) enables graduates from disciplines other than psychology to develop subject-specific knowledge, practical and professional skills and their general transferable cognitive, intellectual and academic skills.

Students gain a deep understanding of the scope of the discipline through active learning experiences to consider how psychological concepts can be applied in practice. Research training prepares students to undertake their own research, under supervision, in the field of psychology and prepares them for professional development as academic or practitioner psychologist.

The work experience module (Applied Practice) enables students to gain real-world practical experience in a professional setting to enhance their employability and underpin their academic learning. With support from the University’s careers advisers and work experience team, students will apply either for external internship opportunities or a significant work-related project within the University or work alongside practicing researchers. Students are interviewed as part of the process and will be assigned a work-based mentor in addition to an academic supervisor.
