This University of Gloucestershire postgraduate course supports and challenges student ideas, creativity and ambitions. Whatever the student's previous experience, the course gets them to explore in depth their way of seeing the world and to think through how to use the language of photography to build a portfolio that has excitement and depth.
Gloucestershire welcome photographers from a wide range of backgrounds, as well as those who have studied photography at undergraduate level. They are looking for passion and a commitment to exploring and questioning the medium of photography. They want students to produce high-quality work that will aid both their personal development and their career ambitions within the creative industries.
Gloucestershire's modules guide students towards recognising potential themes and exploring them using an extended range of approaches and techniques. In addition, an extensive range of workshops will cover such disciplines as high-level digital studio work, moving image and video editing, book production, black and white darkroom work and alternative process techniques.
The process of developing and realising a major portfolio of work is key during the student's time in the course. A final extended major project gives scope to fully develop ideas, informed by previous experimentation and investigation in the earlier modules. Underpinning the practice will be the application of research skills and scholarship – previous students, whatever their background or confidence with academic aspects of postgraduate study, have found this a rich and rewarding part of the course that has greatly expanded their thinking and approach to image making.
