Students will learn in detail about strategic management, marketing, sales management, entrepreneurship, financial planning, human resource management, governance and policy. By developing a strategic and managerial perspective of tourism and hospitality, they'll be well-suited for roles as managers, policymakers or consultants. Learners will develop their skills in tourism and hospitality management, enabling them to set up and manage their own business.
In a typical week, learning takes place through a combination of lectures and seminars. Students will be able to discuss and develop their understanding of topics covered in lectures in smaller group sessions. Outside of timetabled sessions, they'll need to dedicate time to self-study to prepare for coursework, presentations and exams. Greenwich's Stockwell Street library and online resources will support further reading and research. Learners can also join a range of student societies, including the Tourism Society.
Field visits to visitor attractions, tourism and hospitality businesses and tourist destinations are organized as part of the modules from time to time. The teaching team also arranges for regular guest lectures featuring tourism and hospitality industry leaders, such as Visit Greenwich policy makers, social media marketing experts, international tourism strategy consultants and marketing manager of Visit Britain.
Students are offered an optional placement with a tourism or hospitality business as part of the Internship and Consultancy Project module. Students with the help of University's placement department and the programme team arrange the placement in an organization of their choice.
Careers in all aspects of the international tourism and hospitality industry are open to graduates, including leadership and managerial roles, business start-ups and consultancy. Graduates go on to roles in major tourism and hospitality businesses, large hotel companies, government tourism agencies, major online and high street travel and tour agencies, international tourism organizations, tour operators, airlines, marketing, and cultural, heritage, festival and other specialist tourism operations.
