The Water, Waste and Environmental Engineering with Industrial Practice, MSc course is designed for graduates from a wide range of environmental engineering backgrounds who want to apply new sustainable strategies to increasingly complex problems. This course cover the technical aspects of natural and engineering environmental systems. Learners will also combine solid waste management, and contaminated land treatment with management of the earth's resources.
Greenwich's broad approach combines science, public health and engineering. Students will develop their engineering skills and learn to design, develop and apply concepts for water and waste, considering environmental sensitivity. They'll also consider planning, modelling, design, construction, operation, maintenance and control of engineered and natural water and earth resources.
Students of this Water, Waste and Environmental Engineering with Industrial Practice, MSc programme gain the skills for career progression in areas such as desalination and water reuse, water resource engineering, hydraulics, hydrology, and environmental remediation. The course includes a project and a one-year internship with a related employer in the field, allowing students to put their learning into practice and gain vital career skills.
Lectures are delivered by members of the School of Engineering with relevant globally recognised specialisms in the field. Speakers from industry, government and consultancy (e.g. The Environment Agency, Arcadis, Ecologia, Remtech Ltd and SEED) deliver guest lectures each year and industry-relevant teaching sessions.
Graduates will find employment opportunities as engineers, scientist and technical managers in the private sector (engineering design firms, engineering consultancy, project management, risk management and waste management), and in the public sector (environmental protection engineering, regulations and standards, local government). In order to become more specialized, some may even wish to pursue further qualifications such as a PhD.
Employers of environmental engineers include engineering consultancies (such as AECOM, Atkins, Mott MacDonald Group, Hyder), government agencies (such as Environment Agency, Scottish Environment Protection Agency) and NGOs (such as Oxfam, Engineers without Boarders, Water Aid).
