Human Resources (HR) typically focuses on the management of people within an organization, and the BA (Hons) Business and Human Resource Management course gives learners the skills and knowledge for a successful career in this important area.
Students will study topics that fundamentally underpin HR management, including legal issues, economics, people resourcing, accounting and marketing. They'll then move on to specialist modules such as organizational psychology, employment relations, individual employment law, ethics, contemporary HRD and performance management. Once learners have completed the course, they can apply for associate membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). The CIPD is a highly respected body in HR, so this is a real advantage.
Modules are created in consultation with employers, focused on the skills that students really need. Students can choose to take a year-long work placement or study abroad for a year at one of the partner universities worldwide.
The BA (Hons) Business and Human Resource Management graduates often go into HRM graduate schemes, consultancy or HR related positions in the private, public or not-for-profit sectors. Whichever path students choose, they'll have a sound knowledge of HRM and business management, as well as the transferable skills employers need.
Graduates have gone on to roles such as HR administrator, HR graduate trainee, HR manager and personnel officer with companies including Arcadia, Europcar, Marks and Spencer and Royal Mail. This undergraduate course also gives them the skills to work in industrial relations, equal opportunities, training and development, and general management. Students have also opted to purse a master's degree.
