Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering at University of Illinois at Main

The Department of Civil and Materials Engineering (CME) offers program leading to the Master of Science in Materials Engineering. Study and research is available in the areas of metallurgy, ceramics, nanomaterials, electronic materials, composites, welding and joining, solidification, corrosion, and processing.

Faculty members study the mechanics of earthen structures, earthquake faults, soil-structure interactions and waste containment systems. Research in Geo-environmental engineering has a specific emphasis in polluted site assessment and remediation, sediments, groundwater, brown fields, electro-kinetic remediation, chemical oxidation/reduction, and related issues.
