Biology is the science of life, and the department wants to foster a fascination with the biological sciences, develop scientific literacy, and build a solid foundation for careers in biology and related professions.
Contemporary biology asks many questions due to the vast scope of disciplines related to biological sciences, ranging from the smallest molecules and cellular components, to individual organisms such as microbes, plants and animals, to the larger environment, ecosystems and the biosphere.
The Biology Department has an outstanding reputation, both nationally and internationally. Students will benefit from the stellar accomplishments in research and acclaimed graduate and undergraduate programs. The impact of the professor’s research has led to numerous significant research grants, and to some faculty members being nationally recognized as Canada Research Chairs.
