In a world where information technology is rapidly evolving and dependence upon it is continually increasing, the growth of cybercrime is a major concern. The Criminology (Cybercrime and Cybersecurity), MSc offers learners a unique opportunity to develop specialized skills in both cybercrime and cybersecurity. Students will advance their understanding of the main theoretical approaches to cybercrime. It will also introduce them to some of the technical skills required to address challenges in the cybersecurity sector.
This Criminology (Cybercrime and Cybersecurity), MSc meets the British Criminology Society benchmarks for postgraduate taught courses. It offers students the opportunity to work with leading theorists in the field of cybercrime and with experts from the Surrey Centre for Cybersecurity – one of only 14 research hubs recognised as Academic Centres of Excellence by GCHQ and the UK Government.
The course includes a yearly postgraduate day conference which provides an opportunity, in an informal atmosphere, for discussion concerning current research issues and debates, technologies and methods at the forefront of social and criminological research, and other related themes. The event includes presentations from guest speakers, members of staff and PhD students. Students are not required to attend the conference to complete the course, but it’s strongly encouraged.
The Criminology (Cybercrime and Cybersecurity), MSc course gives students the opportunity to develop high-level research skills, which open doors to many careers. Graduates have gone on to start their careers in roles like Crime Journalist, Crime Researcher, Crime Scene Investigator, Police Officer, Prison Officer and Probation Officer.
