About

Wright State University was named to honor aviation pioneers Orville and Wilbur Wright, who invented the world's first successful airplane in their Dayton bicycle shop. In fact, the Wright brothers conducted most of their early test flights at Huffman Prairie, just a short drive from the Dayton campus.

Why Wright State University

  • Campus amenities: Wright State University takes pride in its beautiful 557-acre campus, which includes lush forests and a biology preserve. The university’s state-of-the-art facilities include 32 academic and academic support buildings, 33 student residential buildings, and a world-class entertainment and athletics venue. Underground tunnels connect 20 of 22 buildings in the academic section of campus, shielding students and employees from any adverse weather and adding to the university’s national reputation for accessibility for those with disabilities.
  • Location: Wright State University is located in a safe and welcoming community, just 15 minutes from downtown Dayton - a city that combines an affordable cost of living with an endless variety of activities and events. Unique to the American Midwest, Dayton has a convenient and affordable public transportation system that connects directly to the Wright State campus, allowing students to experience all of the benefits of Dayton and the surrounding region no matter where a student chooses to live.
  • Curricular Practical Training: Students who have completed one year of academic study can apply to participate in Curricular Practical Training. CPT is an alternate work/study, internship, cooperative education, or any other type of required internship or practicum which is offered by sponsoring employers through cooperative agreements with the school.
  • On-campus residence: Wright State's residential community is large and diverse. More than 3,000 students call Wright State home, living in spacious, on-campus dorms and apartments. Several thousand more live in apartments within a short drive or walk to campus.
  • Student clubs and organizations: Wright State's list of student clubs and organizations is always evolving with the changing interests of students. Interested in academics, athletics, socializing, community service, networking, or personal development? There's a good chance that a student organization exists for what students want to do. Join one of the 190+ student organizations or come to one of the many campus events, like April Craze, the International Festival, or the Multicultural Festival.
  • Athletics: Student-athletes are provided with the opportunity to participate in 11 intercollegiate varsity sports at Wright State University, which include five sports for men's programs and six for the women. Sports offered for women include soccer, volleyball, and cross country in the fall; basketball and indoor track in the winter; and outdoor track in the spring. The men compete in soccer and cross country in the fall; basketball in the winter; and baseball and golf in the spring.
