Here is a detailed guide about the processing of a German student Visa. It is the most important and final step of your higher studies in Germany.

VFS will send your documents to the German Embassy / Consulate
They review your documents and transfer them electronically to the BVA Federal Office in Germany and also forward physical documents via Courier.
BVA Federal Office informed the Immigration Office in Germany about the application and transferred the physical documents when received.
Immigration Office in Germany, review the documents in-depth, confirm the admission status from the German University and take the final decision.
They convey the decision to the German Embassy in India and then forward it to VFS Global for passport collection. In case of rejection, a letter of rejection will be issued to the student. If the Embassy wants some clarification, they call the student and ask them to submit related documentation.
You have to submit your passport and other documents if asked by the German Embassy at VFS Global.
The Embassy or Consulate will print the visa and put it on your passport if their decision is positive. They will dispatch the passport to VFS Global.
The passport will be couriered back to the student or ready to pick up at VFS Global.

Process to book Visa Appointment for Germany Student Visa

Open the VFS Global website
Register by entering your email address and password.
Activate your account by clicking on the link in your email.
Open the same link and log in.
Choose your nearest Visa Application Center, Appointment Category and Sub-Category.
You will receive an email once the appointments are available.
Choose the preferred date and time, and book your visa slot.
Reach the chosen Visa Application Center at least 30 minutes before your appointment.

What is the processing time of a German student Visa?

Since the decision process is taken by the Immigration Office in Germany, it generally takes 15-25 days to process your application. In case it is taking more than a month, you can drop an email to BVA (Federal Office of Germany) to get an update on your application.

VFS Charges & Value-Added Services

Visa Fees and VFS Service charges are mandatory in all offices of VFS. To ease the process, they have many other value-added services such as Premium Lounge, Photocopy, usage of Internet Kiosk, and return of passport by Courier, etc.

For students visiting the VFS Global office to submit their German Visa application, it is recommended to choose Premium Lounge to ease the application process. Usually, we do not recommend students opt for it. Based on the personal experience of many students, they suggested the choice of premium lounge is worth it. The premium lounge includes a dedicated representative in a separate area to help you throughout the process. Along with it, the services such as SMS Updates, Photocopy, Photograph, Internet Kiosks and Courier are included.

Please note that VFS Global does not charge fees for booking the Visa Appointment. However, you have to pay the Visa Fees and VFS Service Charges.
